Beyond Academia

Mountains, road trips, and time away from the screen

Outside research, I am happiest when I am travelling or somewhere outdoors. Hiking, camping, snowboarding, and exploring Western Canada have become part of how I reset and regain perspective.

Life around Edmonton and the Rockies

I lived in Edmonton, Alberta from 2019 onward, and that stretch of time made the Canadian Rockies feel close and familiar. Banff, Jasper, and the surrounding trails became regular escapes from academic routines.

What started as simply getting outside became one of the most grounding parts of my life.

Places that stayed with me

Larch Valley mountain landscape

Larch Valley

Wide trails, changing alpine color, and the kind of terrain that makes a long day outside feel easy to justify.

Aurora in the night sky

Aurora

Cold nights, clear skies, and the sort of view that reminds me why astronomy still feels personal outside work too.

Two Jack Lake scenery

Two Jack

Quiet water, easy light, and the kind of stop that turns a drive into a full day worth remembering.

View from Silverhorn area

Silverhorn

One of many places where the scale of the landscape does the work of clearing your head for you.
